fall Mini Sessions

I cannot wait to see you at your session!

During our time together, we'll have the chance to get to create some magic and slow down this season in time.

To serve you best, I've created a guide for you to finish planning the logistics of the session and hopefully avoid any stressors.

a few tips to help you make the most of our time together

1. Plan around naps and meals. This might seem like a no brainer, but you know your child better than anyone and know what happens when they get #hangry. Please don’t forget to feed your kids before your session, haha! We want them at their best, not starting off on a tough foot into a different situation.

2. Be sure to arrive a location 10 minutes early so that you can get your kids dressed in the car. We want to avoid any kind of spill or mishaps beforehand!

3. Don’t be afraid to invest in your outfit, mama.  When you see an image from your session, you’re going to be transported to how you feel. We don’t want that to be feeling self-conscious in your clothes. Nothing should distract you from reliving moments with the people you love most.  Plus, if you start with your outfit, you can build every one else's from there.

4. Speaking of moments, don’t be afraid to pack an activity for your session in case your littles aren't always the most agreeable for photos. Maybe it’s a blanket with their favorite book or a bubble machine... Either way this allows candid moments to unfold and brings out your kids carefree spirits.

a few tips to help you

When picking outfits I recommend keeping in mind the word “compliment” rather than “match.”

For example, if dad is wearing a plaid flannel shirt, you may want to choose a long, solid dress. It can also be a great idea to choose “color-families,” such as warm or neutral tones.

A good rule of thumb: pick 3 or so colors and spread them throughout your attire. Don't be afraid to mix a few subtle patterns or textures (such as linen) but avoid anything with tiny patterns.

And always keep the location in mind. Since we'll be shooting in a green field, light green dresses might blend in too much with the surroundings.

CHOOSE ATTIRE

To keep it simple, here are a few does and don’ts --

wear classic cuts and pieces that make you feel good about yourself.

DO

wear things that coordinate with each other in formality and colors.

DO

wear a little extra makeup, especially around the eyes so they pop!

DO

DO

Choose flowing and flattering pieces to fit with the setting & your shape.

wear anything trendy or something that doesn’t make you feel confident.

DON'T

wear your matching white tees and jeans from the 90s.

DON'T

forget to see if you can coordinate your hair or makeup with our session.

DON'T

DON'T

wear tiny patterns. Stripes and dots that are close together don’t photograph particularly well.

PROPS & PUPS

Make your session extra special

One of my favorite things that I've seen families do is bring a blanket and a book and read together.  It helps make a scene and capture some genuine joy and moments.  Bringing a blanket to sit in the park not only allows us to have some variety in photos, but I get to enjoy y'all as you!  If this doesn't feel authentic to you, feel free to skip!

I often have people ask if they can include their pups in mini session, too! The answer is always a resounding "Yes!" I just ask that you bring  a "pup handler," too so that we can include photos both with and without.

"But what do I do with my hands?!"

POSING woes

When it comes to posing for your session, you don’t need to worry about a thing! I’ll guide you through the entire process beginning with “poses” that are super easy and natural. If I tell you to do something that feels a little funny, it’s probably because I know it’s going to make the two of you laugh - and that’s the photo I'm actually looking for.

Sometimes our littlest friends have the hardest time and so sometimes our best photos have less to do with looking directly at the camera and more about creating little pockets of interactions for y'all instead.

YAY!

I'm so excited for our time together and can't wait to see you so soon!  If you need anything in between now and our session, don't hesitate to reach out.  I'm here for anything you need!

See you so soon!
